Here's the info on the 18 returning birds we had:
For those of you that are new to age codes used by banders, HY
means "Hatch Year," and is used for young birds that were banded
in their 1st fall. AHY means "After Hatch Year" and indicates
that the bird was banded as an adult and so is at least 1 year
older than the day it was banded. For most songbirds we cannot
age adults more precisely; i.e. a 3 year old chickadee appears
identical to our eyes as a 6 year old chickadee and both would
be aged "AHY" by a bander.
Here's our returning birds:
Black-capped Chickadee banded HY on 9/7/2010
Black-capped Chickadee Banded AHY on 9/3/2008
