Backyard Sightings

On the 12th of March, 2006 I heard the loud noise of a starling and looked out the kitchen window, a Sharp-shinned Hawk had caught his lunch. I had my camera handy and got these pictures. After the last picture he flew off with his lunch into the trees.

 

   

   
January 4th, 2012, Snowy Owl north-east of Scottsbluff at CR J and CR 26
also one reported south of Lyman on the 3rd at CR W and CR 6 (those two roads do not intersect so not sure which road he was on but it was near the Banner County line
 
 
Many Snowy Owls have been reported in Nebraska in December and January, up to 120 as of Jan. 4th, 2012  
June 18th,2011  Report of 7 Mississippi Kites in Scottsbluff, I found 3 of them, got a picture of one. These are the first ones reported in Scotts Bluff County (or this end of the state) since one was reported in 1974

June 4th, 40-50 White-faced Ibis in flooded field south of Henry

May 17th, Rose-breasted Grosbeak in the yard

May 15, female orioles showed up.  Yellow -rumped Warblers, Chipping and Clay-colored Sparrows in the yard. Western Tanager, Western Kingbird, Loggerhead Shrike at Winter's Creek Lake, also 4 baby Great-horned Owls on a nest and the Osprey is sitting on the nest west of the lake.
May 13th, Brown Thrasher, Yellow Warbler, Spotted Towhee

May 11th, Bullock's and Baltimore male Orioles in the yard
May 8th, Lark Sparrows in the yard

April 11th, Adult Bald Eagle flying around west of Scottsbluff

April 10, FOY Brown-headed Cowbird, Blue-winged Teal, Peregrine Falcon, Burrowing Owls, Franklin Gull, Western Grebe. Also an immature Bald Eagle flying around near the Scottsbluff tree dump

Found the Sandhill Crane pair at Kiowa. Found a Bald Eagle nest with one eagle on the nest and another close by south of Minatare.  Large flock of White Pelican's flying over near Cochran Lake and a lot of DC Cormorants at the sewer lagoons.

April 9th, found Bald Eagle Nest with one on the nest and one near by south of the Minatare area.  Swainson's Hawks coming in. Burrowing Owls near the Scottsbluff tree dump

A pair of Cardinals show up in our yard and stay a day. Wish they would stay
all year round

The White Eurasian Collared-dove shows up again

I spotted this hybrid duck at the pond on Berggren Rd. I believe it's a merganser/goldeneye cross but maybe something else crossed with the merganser
