On February 22, 1952, a small group of people
who had a great deal of curiosity about the natural world,
especially birds, met in Scottsbluff. This was the first meeting
of the Nature Lovers' Club. Winter meetings were held in homes
of members and programs were given by members or special guests
about any phase of nature or conservation. In summer, marvelous
breakfasts were fixed in someone's yard or in a park and the
members would then go on a field trip.
By 1957 the name was changed to Nature Club and winter meetings
were held in a public meeting room. The location of that
meeting room has changed many times over the years. In 1978 the
club decided to expand its interests and, on June 1, 1978, a
provisional charter from the National Audubon Society was
received by the Wildcat Audubon Society.
Since that time the Wildcat Audubon Society has
had many accomplishments which are listed on the
About Us page.
Our general meetings are now held in a meeting room at the
Regional West Medical Center and are open to the public. We have
programs on a variety of subjects and we invite anyone
interested in birds or wildlife to attend.
We have field trips through out the year and
encourage beginners to come with us and learn about birds.
We appreciate anyone with an interesting bird
sighting to contact one of the field
trip committee members to report it. If you can't identify a
bird we will be glad to try and help.
